You’ll spend the day with a knowledgeable and friendly volunteer who has over 20 years’ experience managing steam engines and boilers. Start with an introduction to the engine and a safety briefing, before preparing the engine which includes coaling up, lighting up, oiling and cleaning the engine, as well as engine and fire management. An Engine Mans’ lunch will be provided, typically consisting of a one pot stew or a hearty soup. After lunch, with the engine raising steam, it is time for steering and driving of the engine of Hollycombe’s beautiful countryside grounds. The day will end with putting the engine to bed and you’ll receive a certificate to commemorate your new skills.
