Microlax is a ready-to-use micro-enema for the short-term relief of constipation, and for clearing the lower bowel before rectal examination. It works locally in the lower bowel to soften and release the stool, so it is unlikely to cause the bowel habituation that can occur with some oral laxatives. It usually produces a bowel movement within around 30 minutes. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or using it for a young child, speak to your pharmacist before use. Do not use if you have severe abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting, or undiagnosed rectal bleeding; speak to a pharmacist or doctor if constipation persists.
