Rake Remove weeds, stones and dead grass. Mow existing grass short first if overseeding. Turn the soil to a depth of approximately 15-22cm. Level and firm the soil before sowing. 2. Shake Shake the carton to remix the seed. Apply approximately 30g per square metre for new lawns and bare patches. Sow evenly in a criss-cross pattern. Lightly rake in, then tread or roll the seed into the soil. 3. Water Water using a fine spray unless sufficient rain falls. Keep the soil moist during the following few weeks. Trim once the grass reaches approximately 5-8cm. Gradually lower the mower towards approximately 2.5cm. Do not remove more than one-third of the growth at one time. Begin feeding after approximately 12 weeks. How to overseed an existing lawn Mow the existing lawn short and rake out dead grass, moss and debris. Lightly moisten dry soil before application.
