Potassium compounds have also been studied for many years for their use in sensitive-tooth formulations. Rather than approaching sensitivity in exactly the same way as hydroxyapatite, potassium provides another route by which a sensitivity toothpaste can address the problem. And researchers have investigated both hydroxyapatite and potassium-containing formulations for dentine hypersensitivity. That doesn't mean one tube of toothpaste can promise to make sensitivity disappear. But it does mean BioDenta's choice of ingredients has a serious rationale behind it. This deserves a little more explanation than you'll normally find on a toothpaste page. SLS – sodium lauryl sulphate – is a surfactant commonly used in toothpaste. Surfactants help toothpaste spread around the mouth and create the foaming action we're accustomed to when brushing. BioDenta Sensitive does not contain traditional sodium lauryl sulphate. It does, however, contain Sodium C12-18 Alkyl Sulfate, a related surfactant derived from a blend of fatty acids. BioDenta says it uses this as a milder cleansing alternative to traditional SLS. That's an important distinction. “SLS-free” doesn't mean BioDenta has simply removed the cleansing agent responsible for helping the toothpaste spread and work effectively around your teeth.
