What is a balanced cable?

A balanced cable has three wires inside - two signal wires and a ground. In this case, the ground surrounds the signal wires, forming a shield to protect them from external interference. However, an important difference between unbalanced cables is the additional signal cable, whose function is to reverse the phase of the transmitted signal allowing more effective isolation and removal of any noise and interference.
